Parking Lot at the End of the Causeway, Saturday Afternoon

You could accuse Katchoo of trying to look the part, what with the leather jacket and cigarette dangling out of the corner of her mouth to go with the new boots, except that she'd had the jacket forever and the cigarette was pretty much an accessory for her.

She'd argue that all of those things went well with the rented motorcycle she was surveying now.

"Still can't believe I'm doing this," she muttered, picking up one of the helmets (she hadn't been able to get a pink one for Arthur, sadly) and trying it on.

Teaching Arthur how to ride a motorcycle. Yeah, this was gonna go great.

He didn't realize this was the same kind of topic! So he just continued to give her a confused look.

"Kinds of clothing?" All he could think of with different kinds was Francine in that--"Oh."

"Oh," she agreed. "Or what people do while they're wearing it. Or not."

"You and here--" Brain. Broken. "This past weekend?!"

Forgive her for taking a moment to parse that; there was a motorcycle circling past.

"What? No!" Francine jerked her head back to stare at him. "While she was normal and I was like that?"

"I don't know! I apparently thought Arthur was a prostitute and asked him to spank me!"

...inside voice, Merlin. Inside voice.

Yes, that was about Merlin's response too.

"I hadn't meant to say that!"

"To Arthur, or to me?"

"Absolutely!" Iamsopicturingthatargharghargharghargh. So perhaps she should move on to denying that it was a pretty picture. Argh.

"...had?" OH GOD, WHY DID HE COMPLETE THAT SENTENCE?!

"I...was going for 'had the balls to say those kind of things when you're not out of your mind,'" Francine blurted, awkwardness-overload ironically making her blunter than usual. "But I guess that too....."

"Oh. I."

Merlin and his ears turned a rather spectacular shade of red at that.

"Sometimes."

Helen Francine Peters, do not ask him which. It will do no one anywhere any good. Concentrate on the blushing contest instead. Or the revving of that engine right there...

Seriously, the motorcycle boots? Not helping, Katchoo.

"Yeah, me too."

"I thought it might be easier, you know? We both have... some experience with this sort of thing," Merlin said, kicking at the ground. "But all I can think is 'Bibble' when it comes to approaching the subject."

That burst of laughter was 99.44% pure nerves and .66% nostalgia because she was pretty sure that's what she'd said after the first time she kissed him.

"Sorry," Francine said. "So not funny. I get that, really I do. I mean, I know Katchoo would never have done any of the things I was trying to get her to do when I was Francie Firelight, because I wasn't me, but... sometimes I wish I was her."

Merlin hooked an arm over her shoulders, tugging Francine close. "And there's no way to just say those kinds of things."

"They managed it," Francine pointed out.

"They're not us," Merlin pointed out. "It might be easier if you did it in a way that wasn't so--" Terrifying? "--like a romantic night sort of thing!"

And no, he was not about to even think of doing that with Arthur, thank you.

Hunh. "Like, dress up, make her dinner, light candles, play music? I could do that."

"Exactly! Then it would be there, but not all---needing to be said."
